The Northern Regional Education Directorate has disclosed a total of Nineteen thousand, four hundred and thirteen (19,413) candidates are expected to write this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Northern Region.
The Ghana Education Service in a statement dated August 20, 2025, said the number includes Nine thousand, six hundred and twenty-one (9,621) male students and Nine thousand, seven hundred and ninety-two (9,792) female students sitting for the examination in the region.
The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr. Owusu Frederick, noted the examination is being conducted in 29 designated centres, under the supervision of 29 supervisors, 92 assistant supervisors, and 1,080 invigilators, to ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the exercise.
“The Ghana Education Service, Northern Regional Education Directorate, wishes to announce the official commencement of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Northern Region. A total of 19,413 candidates are sitting for the examination, made up of 9,621 males and 9,792 females across the region” he stated.
The exams formally commenced on Wednesday, August 20, and expected to end on September 19, 2025. However, some candidates on August 5 began with their project works and practical sessions.
The PRO indicated that the Ghana Education Service, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Security Services and other stakeholders, have put in place adequate measures to safeguard the integrity of the examination and ensure fairness for all candidates.
The statement further urged the candidates to approach the examination with seriousness, discipline and confidence as they prepare to move to the next phase of their academic and professional journeys.
“The Directorate further appreciates the support of parents, teachers, security services, and the public in creating a conducive environment that fosters the success of our candidates. We wish all candidates the very best of success in the 2025 WASSCE” he lauded.
