Club 824, a volunteer group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made up of Business personalities, Career Professionals, Diplomats, Academia, Technocrats, and retired party activists from the Northern region have embarked on a vigorous community based campaign to rally support of disgruntled NPP members ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections.
The club has been visiting some communities to interact with former and current NPP executives, patrons, party elders, retired party activists and opinion leaders among others in the northern region.
The group after the party’s parliamentary primary in December 2023, and January 2024 played an instrumental role in constituencies such as Bimbila, Nanton and Savelugu where there were disputes and some party members declared their intentions to run as independent candidates’.
The intervention made by the group is aimed at promoting unity and mutual coexistence to prevent voter apathy and galvanize more votes for the NPP Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the 18 Parliamentary candidates in the northern region.
The Club Chairman in an address during separate meetings with stakeholders in the Tamale metropolis, Kumbungu and Savelugu constituencies noted that, the good will exhibited by the party flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia across the country gives hope for a resounding victory come December 7, and called on all past and current executives to work assiduously as a united front to make the region part of Dr. Bawumia’s victory.
According to him, the party has chosen a transformational leader who is taking some bold decisions to transform Ghana, and has developed a clear message that would require all party officials to disseminate to the understanding of the people.
He further called on the rank and file of the party especially former and the current Executives, Elders, Women and Youth group leaders as well as all those who contested in the internal elections of the party to shed all infractions that might have made them feel dissatisfied, and cooperate with the current party structures for the massive victory awaiting the party in the December 7 general elections.
The Club Chairman also made a passionate appeal to the Regional and Constituency executives to develop a mechanism to give hope to the people through an effective and formalized communication method to party members at the grassroots to avert NDC fabrications, misinformation, and propaganda to lure them.
Meanwhile, both the New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress are working assiduously to win majority parliamentary seats in the northern region. The two major parties have divided the 18 constituencies 9 apiece in the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.
Whereas the NDC has announced a target of 14 seats in the upcoming election, the NPP on the other hand have said they target to recapture Wulensi, Kpandai, Saboba, Savelugu, which the party lost in the 2020 election and add them to their stock.
