The New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the Savelugu constituency, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has presented five motorbikes to the Savelugu Municipal Police Command and an undisclosed amount of money to fuel the bikes in order to maintain law and order in the area before, during and after the upcoming general election.
Similarly, the NPP Member of Parliament hopeful has also donated three motorbikes and undisclosed cash amount to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the municipality to support their day to day operations.
Madam Fatahiya during the handing over ceremony on Sunday (October 20, 2024) stated that the gesture was her little way to support the two institutions and gave an assurance of her commitment for future support.
“Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz as you all know, I am one of you [a police woman] so I know the struggles we go through to perform our duties. So we’re here to present to you these five motorbikes to aid in your movement around the constituency and its environs. So please accept this, it is just the beginning” she asserted.
She added, “I have a special place in my heart for Ghana Police Service because I was also serving and I am still serving in a different way, just that now I have decided to join the political family.”
Hajia Fatahiya who serves as a Staffer at the Office of the President underscored the importance of peace before, during and after the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and urged the police personnel to work diligently to ensure law and order in the constituency.
“We’re going into the 2024 election and you know we need to monitor closely especially our young men because you know what people can do in elections. So please, let’s manage this for now to protect our constituency; Savelugu constituency is all we have, we’re one family and I’m not saying we’re going to fight but as you know safety precautions first” she admonished.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, in her remarks described the intervention as unprecedented in the history of the municipality and further highly commended the NPP candidate for the novelty. She also entreated the two beneficiary institutions to ensure the bikes are maintained adequately to serve its intended purpose.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Alhaji Mohammed Ketia, after receiving the machines, expressed gratitude on behalf of the IGP and the Municipal Command to the NPP candidate, stating that it has come at the right time. He noted that some parts of the communities are hard to reach areas with vehicles but then this would enable them to form motorbike patrol teams in the coming period.
The Police seized the opportunity to appeal to the NPP MP hopeful to support them to fix one of their vehicles which has been down for over a year as a result of faulty gear-box and fuel pump.
For his part, the Savelugu Fire Service Station Officer, Mr. Yussif Douglas, said the motorbikes will greatly support the daily activities of the station and thanked the NPP parliamentary candidate for the gesture.
