A total number of Thirty-One Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Four (31,534) candidates in the Northern Region are participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in one hundred and seventeen (117) centres.

The number consist of Sixteen Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty-Eight (16,528) male students and Fifteen Thousand and Six (15,006) female students from 573 public and 125 private schools across the 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.

The Northern Regional Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), Katumi Natogmah Attah, in her remarks prior to the commencement of the examination on Monday, August 7, urged the candidates to follow all the rules and guidelines provided by the examination board during the examination period.

She also implored them to maintain the highest level of integrity, as honesty and ethical behaviour are essential in any academic pursuit.

“Be mindful of your time management, and allocate sufficient time to each question, ensuring that you complete the examination within the given timeframe” she stressed.

“The BECE is a crucial assessment that evaluates your knowledge, understanding, and application of various subjects. I want to remind you that this examination is not just a test of memory; rather, it is an opportunity for you to showcase your critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Approach each question with confidence, knowing that you have been equipped with the necessary knowledge and abilities to excel” the Director emphasized.

Mrs. Attah further entreated the students to stay calm and focused throughout the process and also remember to regular breaks while studying, get enough rest, and maintain a healthy lifestyle to optimize their performance during the examination days.

“Believe in yourself and your capabilities; you have worked hard to reach this point, and you are capable of achieving great things.”

She also commended the efforts of teachers, parents, and guardians who have supported and guided the children along the way, stating “their dedication to your education is commendable, and they, too, share in your aspirations for success. Remember to express gratitude to them for the role they have played in shaping your educational journey.”

Meanwhile, the GES Regional Director in a circular sighted by THE CUSTODIAN Online addressed to all District Directors prior to the start of the exams said, “As leaders in the education sector, let us work together to uphold the standards of the BECE and guarantee that all candidates are given a fair chance to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities.”

She further directed that the necessary arrangements should be made for candidates with special needs or disabilities, ensuring they are provided with the necessary support and accommodations during the examination.

“Your efforts in ensuring a seamless examination process will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of education within our region” she said.
