The Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG) has pleaded with its membership to freeze its activities involving heavy interpersonal traffic until the COVID-19 disease is brought under control. The Association noted that it is observing a two week lockdown from Monday 30th March 2020 and urged clients to keep in touch on its website or use its telephone numbers for its services.

A release signed by President of AAG, Gideon Bidor on behalf of the Executive Council, and copied to The Custodian acknowledged the increasing number of the Coronavirus cases in the country over the past few weeks.

He noted that the AAG involves team work that requires lots of personal contact especially site workers and interpersonal contacts with numerous clients.

This, he said, makes the members vulnerable to the Coronavirus hence the need for drastic measures to maintain health and safety. The daily rising number of cases, he said, is of grave concern and as such causes the Association to be mindful of its priority for individuals and the collective health and safety lifestyle.

“The World Health Organization (WHO), the government of Ghana and the Ministry of Health, our most credible sources of advice and information on how to better manage the situation has been forthcoming with updates.”

“We encourage members and fellow Ghanaians to keep up with the advice and monitor carefully the guidelines for prevention,” the release said.

He pleaded with the members and clients not to be complacent but apply the needed protocols to ensure their safety.

He said, “We kindly plead with our members, clients and partnering companies not to be complacent and to take measures at this crucial period to ensure full Health & Safety compliance.”

“We further wish to encourage members to consider partial lockdown on all activities,” he added.

The AAG President pledged the Association’s preparedness to support to prevent the spread of the virus when called upon, and stressed that its various artisans are trained and equipped for such important service.

He appealed to members to comply with basic health & safety tips including washing hands regularly with soap under running water, sanitizing hands regularly and wearing nose mask, observing the social distancing protocol and avoiding handshakes and all the other precautionary measures announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
