Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, NPP General Secretary

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NP), Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, has stated that the blame game and accusations among the rank and file of the party particularly from the grassroots is part of the healing process after the undesirable outcome in the 2024 general elections.

He noted a lot of people including himself would’ve taken credit if the party had won last year’s presidential and parliamentary polls and for that it is a normal for the party faithful to express their disappointment.

“…Victory has many fathers and failure is an orphan and I believe if we had won the elections, many of the praises would’ve gone to so many people, even including myself. But it didn’t go on well for us and definitely it is normal to find people accusing officers of the party including myself as General Secretary.

“Everyone has had his share of the accusations; people have even accused the structure that we have as a party from the polling station – people have also accused polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, even constituency officers, regional officers and national officers, even our flagbearer and the former President” Mr. Justin emphasized.

He reiterated all these accusations are part of the healing process, stating that, “We accept them in good faith and as our slogan goes, we’re the New Patriotic Party, Elephant is our symbol, definitely we have fallen but that is not the end of us and we will definitely rise up again and march on to victory in 2028.”

The NPP chief scribe made these remarks in an interview with Tolon Radio in the northern region monitored by this portal last Sunday, March 2.

Justin Frimpong Kodua also highlighted some teething challenges that undermined the party’s preparation moving into the general elections. He therefore implored party supporters to remain calm and resolute

“Remember I became a General Secretary at a very difficult period and I remember I mentioned in one of my interviews that in the history of this party since 1992, we’ve never had a General Secretary who have had to go to three by-elections in a space of two years. We were elected into office in July 2022, then just as we were about to put all the necessary strategies in place for 2024 election, we had the by-election at Kumawu where our Member of Parliament passed on then afterwards we also had another by-election at Assin North and also another by-election at Ejisu” he clarified.

He maintained the party had to make preparations for those elections coupled with other internal elections such as the presidential and parliamentary primaries and the turbulence in Parliament where NPP Members of Parliament rising up against the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

Justin Kodua indicated all these incidents affected the party’s plans going into the general election.
