The Arbitration Tribunal of Togbe Adzemunua, Supreme Chief Priest of the Adzemu Shrine (Tronua) at Agave Afedome, in the Volta Region, delivered a judgment in favor of Togbe Kpefufu, represented by Agbotadua Agbodzi, witness for Torgbui Azi, against Torgbui Anatsi V, who claimed alienator for Ben Awusanya, and others.
The case concerned ownership claims over Agordoe and Torve lands, previously Referenced in a 1984 Ho High Court ruling. The tribunal reaffirmed that Togbe Kpefufu (Dutor) is the rightful owner of Torve Land, sharing boundaries with:
∙ Torgbui Azi of Agordoe and Dufia of Agordoe land
∙ Nunushi of Dawlo land
∙ Torgbui Anni of Xavi land
∙ Torgbui Dadugblor of Agbedraforland
All boundary owners have confirmed and attested to Togbe Kpefufu’s ownership of Torve Land.
Records, including High Court Suits No. E1/01/2023 and E1/21/2018, trace the lineage to Adela Ganadzi, son of Afeawu, and progenitor Adela Awadali, founder of the Aborder Stool and Anyigbe Clan of Agave (1400s).
After the 1866 Datsutakpa War, Eklukpi (Eklu) of Bakpa ethnie settled at Venorviwodorfe, meaning (Eklukpi twins were devoured by unknown animal), where he was assisted by Adela Ganadzito come close, the name Torve (Teɖetɔvanu) formally as Afegame. River Agbegblorley originated from the phrase ‘I have fish here’ instead of Tordzinu Deme giving rise to the name ‘Ablegborley’ by Adela Ganadzi.
Following Eklukpi’s death, his descendants installed Nyamanyahe (meaning ‘What I didn’t know before, I now regret’) on Ehozi as ‘Torgbui Anatsi l’ around 1956. Later, in 1988, the family moved their “left behind their deities by their Ancestor” from ‘Venorviwodorfe’ and ‘Edovete’ to the present ‘Anatsi Korfe’ in Torve.
A ‘Yeve cult dispute‘ between ‘Akpalu Agbenyegah’ and ‘BesaTufa’ of the Anatsi family led to land been leased to ‘Ketajo from Anlo’ by the Kpefufu elders. This same land was later reclaimed by authorities under Dumega Nukporfe Susu Agbodzi in 1989 for flood housing resettlement.
The High Court (Suit No. E1/21/2018, pages 4 and 6) struck out claims by Torgbui Anatsi twice for incapacity and unauthorized summons under Order 37 (4) of C.I. 47, affirming that all lands, river creeks, and streams at Torve belong to Togbe Kpefufu, hereditary descendant of Adela Ganadzi.
Further validation appears in High Court Suit No. E1/01/2020, where Kotey Agbodzi (defendant) won representation for Kpefufu. From the Archive 1912 Crowther Report, by Francis, a British colony, cradle peace envoy, also testified to Kpefufu’s ownership at Tordzinu represented by Amega Okako.
After the wars fought by Adela Ganadzi established a war stool ‘Krakaku’ in 1868 and installed his son ‘Atsu’ as Togbe Kpefufu, Dutor and grantor of Torve land. He also enstooled ‘Darah’ as ‘Hanua’ (opinion leader) of Torve.
Togbe Kpefufu the Junior Divisional Chief in Afegame Gates Division of the Anyigbe Clan, Agave, and holds the allodial freehold title to all Torve and Tordzinu Lands.
To this end, the public is hereby informed that Torve Land, including all its boundaries, river creeks, and streams, remains the ‘ancestral and legal property’ of Togbe Kpefufu and his lineage, under the jurisdiction of the Afegame Gates Division of Anyigbe Clan, Agave.
