Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agbana, has expressed disappointment over what he described as growing attempts by some individuals to lobby for the position of Headmaster at Dzodze-Penyin Senior High School (DZOSEC) in the Volta Region.
The current Headmaster of the school, Mr. Yaw Vidzro, was recently interdicted over alleged sexual misconduct involving some female students. However, investigations by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Education Service (GES) are still ongoing, and no wrongdoing has been established against him so far under GES regulations or any other law.
Hon. Agbana stressed that Mr. Vidzro has not been found guilty and assured the public that no individual would be shielded should the investigations recommend further action.
Speaking at the commissioning of an infirmary at Dzodze-Penyin Senior High School, the MP commended Mr. Joshua Yaw Vidzro for his role in ensuring the completion of the project.
“Let me also thank the interdicted Headmaster, Mr. Joshua Yaw Vidzro. Since his appointment as Headmaster of this institution, he mounted so much pressure on me for this project and several others. We completed this one and were in the process of starting others before the interdiction,” he said.
“We cannot talk about the success of this project without acknowledging Mr. Vidzro. When the project was completed, I asked for a list of items needed for the facility, and it was not easy to secure all of them. But Mr. Vidzro assured me he would help us get some of the items through well-wishers, and you can see some of them here today,” Hon. Agbana added.
Human Right and Humanitarian Institute, a US based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), was one of the well wishers who made donations of items for the infirmary.
During his address, the MP also proposed that the infirmary be named after his predecessor, Hon. James Klutey Avedzi, in recognition of his immense contribution and for initiating the project.
Touching on the controversy surrounding the interdiction of the Headmaster, Hon. Agbana cautioned against speculation and urged those lobbying for the position to desist, insisting that all discussions on the matter should cease.
“Let me put to rest all the speculations, rumours and misinformation. Our recently interdicted Headmaster has not been convicted of any crime or wrongdoing. There is an ongoing investigation by the Police and GES, and until a report is issued, people must stop tarnishing the reputation of the school,” he said.
“I also want to use this platform to send a strong message to those who have suddenly become very busy lobbying. GES has not established that there is a vacancy at DZOSEC. I am tired of the many calls and the lobbying. The internal politics, schemes and manoeuvres going on here are only undermining one another,” Hon. Edem Agbana stressed.
