President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned desperate politicians who engage in tribal bigotry for political gains.
This, according to him, does not auger well for the unity and development of the country.
President Akufo-Addo condemned the dangerous tribal buffoonery being promoted in Ghana’s politics after former President John Dramani Mahama reposted Facebook comments by MP for Bolgatanga Central that persons allegedly behind the Agyapa Royalties deal were Akyem mafia.
Mr Mahama who is the NDC flagbearer for the 2020 general election in reposting Isaac Adongo’s post said “Agyapa Royalties fraud is the last straw: The Akyem Sakawa Boys and Grandpas must go.”
Speaking to the clergy in Accra and in an interview with Accra-based Oman FM, President Akufo-Addo entreated Ghanaians to condemn and shun politicians who engage in labelling of ethnic groups in such despicable terms, reiterating that it is a highly divisive conduct.
“I will not describe any ethnic group in such manner and I expect the clergy and every well-meaning Ghanaian to condemn this behaviour”, President Akufo-Addo stated.
Promising unfulfilled promises
President Akufo-Addo noted that the NDC presidential hopeful Mr Mahama is promising things he cannot do just to garner votes ahead of the December 7, presidential polls.
He wondered why the former president could not implement whilst in power, the policies he is promising.
“He [John Mahama] just move around promising. He brags too much”, President Akufo-Addo stated in the interview with Oman FM.
“I am hoping people of Ghana will surprise him so he will know people of Ghana don’t have short memories,” he added.
