President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has warned that lifting the partial lockdown does not mean Ghana is out of the  pandemic yet.

He cautioned that communities will be locked down if it is identified the virus is becoming prevalent until there is a clear understanding of the trajectory of the virus and the ability to contain it.

He indicated that events in identified hotspots in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area like Weija Gbawe, Ga East, and Ayawaso East Municipalities, and Tema Metropolis, and Asuoygaman and Lower Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region will be monitored closely.

The President, during his 7th televised address to the state, urged Ghanaians to, therefore, exercise strong sense of selflessness and self-control.

The success in defeating the virus, he stressed, is within control hence the need for self-discipline during the period without the partial lockdown in Accra and Kumasi.

He warned that the risk of unknowingly transmitting the coronavirus still lurks hence the need to obey the measures still in place and new ones being introduced.

“We know our survival depends on the harder we are on ourselves obeying them, the quicker and more enduring will be the victory.”

“This disease is new, it is in plain evolution, and there is, therefore, as yet, no vaccine or cure. But we know enough to take action, and we shall be nimble and adapt as the situation changes.”
“We will tailor our solutions to our unique social, economic and cultural conditions,” he stated.

President Akufo-Addo observed that the present circumstances demands building of self-discipline at home, in workplaces and communities.

“We need to build a strong bridge of self-discipline in order for us to cross over from this difficult period of restrictions and the spread of the Coronavirus to the other side, where total freedom to go about our normal lives awaits us.”

“To defeat the virus, and get there, we have to accept that we have to wash our hands, maintain good hygiene, refrain from shaking hands, wear our masks, and practice social distancing in all of our engagements,” he advised.

The President who acknowledged there is no one-size-fits-all approach to addressing the present predicament pledged Government will do whatever is required to safeguard the lives of people and keep the economy going.
