In a highly philanthropic gesture that has received praise and political admiration, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency in the Eastern Region and Minority Chief Whip, Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh has presented 400 driver’s licenses to taxi drivers within his constituency.
The symbolic presentation took place on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office in Nsawam.
The initiative, which was originally launched in 2023 ahead of the 2024 general election, is aimed at supporting commercial drivers by covering the full cost of obtaining valid driving licences through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Each licence is valid for six years.
Even though critics at the time questioned the timing and political motivation behind the registration drive, suggesting it was a vote-seeking strategy, Mr Annoh-Dompreh remained committed to fulfilling his promise despite the NPP losing the 2024 polls to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The MP personally handed over the licences to individual drivers.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh urged the drivers to make responsible use of the document, emphasising that it was not only a legal requirement but also a symbol of their livelihood and professionalism.
“I made a promise to these hardworking drivers before the elections, and I am proud to stand here today—despite my party not being in power—to fulfil that promise,” he said.
The Minority Chief Whip also used the occasion to criticize the current NDC administration, that the government had failed to deliver on its 2024 campaign promises.

He accused the governing party of using “lies and deceit” to win power and said the worsening cost of living and increasing insecurity were proof that the so-called “Reset Agenda” was failing
“Under the NPP, the cost of living was manageable, and there was more stability in the economy. Today, prices of goods and services have skyrocketed. Ghanaians are facing the real consequences of electing the NDC,” the Minority Chief Whip stated.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh also raised concerns about the growing threat of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” which he said has worsened under the NDC’s watch.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP accused the government of turning a blind eye to environmental degradation, particularly the destruction of water bodies through the use of mercury.
“We in the Minority have even petitioned the government on this matter. They promised a state of emergency to deal with galamsey, but nothing meaningful has been done. Their true colours are beginning to show,” he added.
Renewed commitment
Mr Annoh-Dompreh reaffirmed his commitment to development in the constituency despite being in opposition.
He assured residents that all ongoing projects initiated during the NPP administration would be completed and that he would continue to lobby for progress, regardless of which party is in government.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh urged the residents to remain hopeful and loyal to the NPP, promising a stronger comeback in the 2028 general election.
“I urge all of you to keep faith with the NPP. Come 2028, we will rescue Ghana from this hardship and restore the dignity of our nation,” he emphasised.
The event brought together dozens of local drivers, community members, and NPP constituency executives.
Many drivers expressed gratitude to the MP, calling the licenses a “life-changing” support that would allow them to work freely and legally.
