There is growing pressure in the Tamale Central constituency for President John Dramani Mahama to consider appointing the newly elected Member of Parliament for the area, Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu as Minister.
Professor Seidu was elected in September 2025 to succeed the late Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, then Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, who tragically lost his life in the helicopter crash on August 6, 2-25 together with seven other occupants, including the Defense Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
Consequently, some constituents particularly members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the by-election called on the President to consider appointing the lawmaker to replace the deceased Minister.
However, the President announced last year that he was not ready to immediately replace the fallen Ministers until after the new year before he would take a decision to appoint new Ministers to occupy the vacant positions.
In view of this, the Tamale Central NDC Communications Officer, Umar Abdul Razak also known as ‘Golden Boy’, has renewed the clarion call for the President to consider their MP for the vacancy.
”I am writing on behalf of the constituents of Tamale Central to humbly request your consideration in appointing our current Member of Parliament, Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu to serve in a capacity that will deepen the representation and development of our constituency,” he said in a statement to the President.
He described the untimely passing of Dr Ibrahim Murtala as a significant loss to the community and the nation at large.
In recognition of his tireless efforts and vision for development by Murtala Mohammed, the Communication officer believes that appointing Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu who has demonstrated commitment and dedication, would be a fitting tribute and a prudent step towards continuing the legacy of the late MP.
Umar Abdul Razak further argued that an appointment at this juncture would not only honor Dr. Murtala Muhammed’s memory but also bolster the ongoing development initiatives in the Tamale Central constituency.
”It would ensure stability, continuity, and sustained progress in our beloved constituency.
”We kindly appeal to your compassionate and visionary leadership to consider this request favourably. Your support would greatly motivate our community and reinforce our collective dedication to Ghana’s progress,” he appealed.
