The Executive Director for the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Mr. Wakefield Ackuaku has assured victims of a recent fire outbreak at the Arts Centre that the needed support will arrive.
In the evening of 24th June, 2025, Fire engulfed some parts of the Arts Centre in Accra.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was swift in respond
ing to the alarm, otherwise the damage would have been worse, according to some of the victims.
Mr. Ackuaku, in the company of the AG. Director of the Centre for National Culture – Accra and his management, visited the site on 27th June, 2025; with with team from NCC.
Upon the visit to the site, some traders and shop owners had started working on rebuilding their affected shops.
“I understand that our work here is all about survival. But if we rebuild on ‘a weak foundation’ we may end up in a worse situation” Mr. Ackuaku advised.
The affected person argued that they had to start rebuilding because they have expensive items in there which would be stolen if not protected.
“Let us hold on. Let’s wait on the NaDMO, receive reports from the Fire Service, the Police, and ECG and we will know what to do” Mr. Ackuaku added.

Most of the affected people complained bitterly about the items they have lost and need help immediately.
However, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture responded by saying:
“It is early to make any promise to anybody. I am seeing this for the first time and I will discuss this with my Minister and my senior members to know what it is and then know the way forward” he pleaded.
