Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, completed his nationwide campaign tour in the Ashanti Region yesterday with massive endorsement ahead of the party’s presidential primary on 31st January, 2026.
It was a sight to behold as delegates in the Sekyere Afram Plains, Kumawu, Efiduase, and Manhyia North constituencies had the privilege of hosting the former Vice President on the final day of his campaign tour.
Delegates in the Manhyia North received Dr Bawumia in grand style as they welcomed the former Vice President with a rapturous reception and songs of approval.
Dr Bawumia, who is highly tipped to win the NPP presidential primary on Saturday, has been on the road for about four months now, engaging stakeholders of the main opposition party.
His energetic campaign has taken him to all 276 constituencies across the country, with the exception of six constituencies in the Bawku Zone, which were under security restrictions at the time he toured the Upper East Region.
Dr Bawumia’s campaign has been praised for its organisation, as well as the clarity of his message, which is tailored towards party unity and rebuilding, as well as his vision for the transformation of the country.
Throughout his engagement with party stakeholders, Dr Bawumia has also prioritised policies and measures which he said will address the welfare concerns of members of the party, especially at the grassroots level, a serious issue raised by the Mike Oquaye Committee, which investigated reasons why the NPP lost the 2024 election.
Welfare system for party members
As part of his solution to the perennial problem, Dr Bawumia has proposed to institute a database welfare system, which will register members of the party at local levels, acknowledge their efforts, register their needs and have those needs addressed proportionally.
To also address the exclusion of some constituencies, the NPP presidential hopeful has further proposed to grant each constituency a minimum of 10 appointments in a future NPP government.
This, he explained, will ensure that no constituency is excluded from the distribution of appointments to qualified members.
Again, to promote inclusive development in all constituencies, the former Vice President has proposed to institute a constituency-based national budget, which he has explained will allocate resources for development in every constituency.
Throughout his engagements with delegates across the country, Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has been characterised by emphatic support and endorsements across the board.
Key stakeholders of the party, including MPs, former MPs, former Metropolitan, Municipal Chief Executives (MMDCEs), regional executives, constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, and polling station executives, among others, have openly declared support for him in all constituencies across the country.
Many independent surveys have also put Dr. Bawumia in pole position to be retained by party delegates as flagbearer of the NPP for the 2028 election.
Global InfoAnalytics’s current survey indicated that Dr Bawumia will win the presidential primary by 57%, while Africa Policy Lens (APL) said it will be 61%.
