Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emerged as the winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The contest, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, was organised to select the party’s candidate for the impending by-election.
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed polled 431 votes, while Hajia Amina Adam obtained 399 votes. Mohammed Ramme secured 88 votes, Dr Yakubu Azindow recorded 45 votes, and Mohammed Najib received one vote. The results represent the combined totals from the two voting centres.
The closely fought primary drew considerable public attention, especially amid debate over campaign activities.
During the process, Baba Jamal’s team shared items including 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs with delegates — gestures he said were goodwill offerings and not meant to sway the results.
