A senior communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is also vying to become the next Northern Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Alice Dawuni, has endorsed the presidential bid of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the upcoming January 31 presidential primary.
She believes that the former Vice President is the idle candidate when elected as the flagbearer to secure victory for the NPP in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In her argument in an interview with The Custodian Online, Madam Alice noted the contribution of Dr Bawumia in terms of policy propositions cannot be overemphasised, adding he is the most experienced politician presently vying to occupy the seat of government.
”As a party, we stand a great chance of winning the 2028 general elections with DMB. He is the most marketable person presently in the party.
He has a lot of rich ideas and the requisite expertise that not only members of our party believe in him but every Ghanaian can appreciate and admit that he is the kind of leader this country requires in this era of digital and industrial revolution,” she stated.
Alice Dawuni indicated there are tangible evidence of the incredible performance of the former vice president during the Akufo-Addo led administration, mentioning several policy interventions such as the Zipline drone delivery system of critical medical supplies, the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme, the Mobile Money interoperability, and the National Identification card (Ghana Card) among other life-changing initiatives.
Peace and unity
The Women Organiser, hopeful in her remarks, emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and unity in the largest opposition. Therefore, she appealed to supporters of the five presidential aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a decorous manner.
She observed that the defeat of the NPP in 2024 was also partly due to acrimony and apathy, hence the critical reason for the party to maintain discipline and cohesion before, during, and after the internal electoral processes.
She further charged the rank and file of the party to rally support for any candidate who eventually emerged as the winner giving that the ultimate goal is to regain power back to the government.
Alice Dawuni expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party can set a record in the 2028 polls as the only political organisation to recapture power in four years after losing.
However, she reiterated that this is possible only if all stakeholders from the polling stations, electoral areas, constituency to the regional and national levels form a united front to wrestle power from the National Democratic Congress.
According to her, though the John Mahama government is still enjoying some goodwill from Ghanaians, she believes this will eventually wane down because they cannot do anything to improve the livelihood of the people.
