The former President, John Dramani Mahama, who is the 2024 presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is having a challenge of coming out with a well thought through campaign message because Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Salifu Saeed, a senior campaign aide of the Vice President has said.
The former Northern Regional Minister in a media interview during a campaign tour in the Upper East region recounted how the NDC over the years has engaged in propaganda and accused the NPP of being an ‘Akan’ party for which reason they will never elect a northerner to lead the party.
“The NDC over the years especially within the fourth democratic dispensation used to say that the NPP is Akan party, NPP doesn’t like the North; they will never choose a northerner and all that. Now that Bawumia is the leader, the NDC is handicapped with information, they can’t say again that the NPP doesn’t like northerners and they can’t choose a northerner or whatever and that is why they are having a problem” he asserted.
Mr. Saeed noted this is the reason why the National Democratic Congress have resorted to labeling the Vice President as a liar but hasten swiftly to refute that it is never true that Dr Bawumia is a liar.
He further described the Vice President as a man with integrity and one of the credible politicians in the country whose economic prowess is highly regarded not only in the country but in the international community.
“Bawumia is one of the people who will come out with a speech, with a policy, will come out to deliver a lecture and not only the credible institutions within Ghana, the international rating communities and agencies across the globe [before you hear] the World Bank will say what Bawumia is true; the IMF and all other international bodies will come and affirm what he said” the outspoken former Minister stated.
