Former Volta Regional Minister Kofi Dzamesi has declared his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential race of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
About 10 persons including Vice President Bawumia, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen and Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, have declared their intention to contest for the position.
However, Mr. Dzamesi who is the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority and a former ally of Alan Kyerematen, believes the Vice President is the best among all those interested in the NPP presidential slot.
Addressing a meeting of NPP party faithful in the Volta Region on Friday, the former Volta Region Minister said only the Vice President can lead the NPP to victory in 2024.
Apparently, Dzamesi’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia, surprised many due to his past efforts as a leading campaigner for Alan Kyerematen in previous contests.
A number of key allies of Alan have also quit his campaign, and are vigorously campaigning for Vice President Bawumia, who enjoys strong support at all levels of the party, including the grassroots.
