Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday donated GH¢50,000 to the family of late highlife musician Daddy Lumba, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a separate donation of GH¢100,000 during the musician’s funeral in Kumasi.
The donations were presented at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where thousands of mourners gathered for the final funeral rites of the celebrated artist.
Daddy Lumba’s funeral drew fans, musicians, political figures, and traditional leaders from across the country, reflecting his wide influence on Ghana’s music and popular culture.
The burial followed a ruling by the Accra High Court on Friday that cleared the way for the funeral after a family faction failed to meet a court-ordered payment deadline required to sustain an injunction blocking the release of the musician’s body.
Daddy Lumba, regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential highlife musicians, died on July 26 at the age of 60.
His funeral marked the close of weeks of legal uncertainty over burial arrangements and allowed supporters nationwide to pay their final respects.
