Vice President and flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is expected to light a flame to charge party faithful and sympathizers within the Akuapem North constituency.
As part of the event, Dr. Bawumia and the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Sammi Awuku will on Saturday 3rd August embark on the second edition of the gargantuan walk dubbed “Ofie Mega Walk.”
Last year, Mr. Awuku who is also the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) embarked on the first edition of the ‘’ Ofie Mega Walk’’, during which there was overwhelming support for his candidacy for Akuapem North.
This year’s 6-kilometer walk will commence from Mamfe at exactly 5am and end at Mampong, where Dr. Bawumia will address the participants.
The Vice President along with other prominent NPP figures such as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Justin Frimpong Kodua, Henry Nana Boakye, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, Kwabena Agyepong, Nana Akomea, and Anthony Karbo, are expected to be in attendance.
The Eastern regional party chairmen and his executives and constituency executives across the region will also be present.
The NPP flagbearer, according to information gathered, will emphasise the importance of continuing with the governing party to build on its achievements.
The walk is part of activities to break the eight-year governance cycle between the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
It is expected to draw over 5,000 participants and will be spearheaded by Sammi Awuku.
The event is intended to energise and mobilise party supporters, galvanising them for a vigorous political campaign.
It will also serve as the launch event for Sammi Awuku’s campaign, highlighting NPP’s strategy to secure a decisive victory over the NDC in the constituency.
In addition to a political rally, the event will feature performances by renowned musicians including Guru, Edem, Praye, and Andy Dosty, with Asamoah Gyan former captain of the Black Stars, also making an appearance.
History making
NPP intends to make history with Vice President Bawumia, the first politician of northern extraction to lead the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition into a major election.
Accordingly, Dr. Bawumia is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to engage the people of Ghana to vote for him to win the 7th December, 2024 presidential election.
After a mammoth unveiling of his Running Mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, the NPP flagbearer quickly moved to the North to continue his campaign.
Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has so far been consultative, energetic and grassroots-based as he engages with traditional rulers, community
members through his street-to-street, market and house-to-house campaigns.
The NPP flagbearer is not likely to depart from this routine, considering the enormous impact he made in the first phase of his campaign.
