The Member of Parliament for Gushegu constituency in the Northern Region, Lawyer Alhassan Tampuli has stated that the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the 2024 general election with majority in Parliament.
Mr. Tampuli who is also the Deputy Minister for Transport projected that the NPP will win at least 147 constituencies to form the next government.
“As it stands now, per our findings as at September, we are winning 147 constituencies across the country. So currently we will have the majority seats in Ghana to form the next government,” he announced.
The former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) made the disclosure at a mammoth rally in the Tamale Central constituency at the Zogbeli cluster of Schools Park after a Health Walk on Saturday.
“The message that I am telling you even the NDC National Chairman, General Asiedu Nketiah, is a witness to that, that our party is resolved to capture more parliamentary seats and I am assuring him that by the end of this month (October), the NDC will give up even the presidential seat to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” Mr. Tampuli predicted.
NPP’s Northern Regional executives have declared operation win 75% votes in the region as they have targeted to win at least 13 out of the 18 parliamentary seats in the region.
‘Nothing will stop Bawumia’s victory except God’
A Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, popularly known as Professor Haruna has pronounced except the Almighty God, absolutely nothing will stop Dr Bawumia from winning the upcoming election to become President of Ghana.
He charged the enthusiastic supporters of the NPP in the Northern Region not to be deterred or scared by the antics of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, violent pronouncements by members of the largest opposition party are mere threats, which they dare not carry out.
“Don’t feel threatened or be scared of whatever the NDC has been saying; those statements are mere rhetorics and they cannot do anything. So I am telling you that on Election Day, Hon Sule Salifu is first on the ballot and Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is also first on the ballot.
“When you’re given your ballot paper and you finish voting for the both of them, then you move into the households, farms, the markets etc to encourage others to also come out and vote. When that is done the voting is over, then leave everything to us now because nobody can tamper with a ballot,” he stated.
Bold solutions
Professor Haruna said the NPP’s presidential candidate is coming to power with “Bold Solutions” to upgrade the country’s economy and position Ghana well in the fourth Industrial Revolution driven by technology and data.
‘Northern Ghana will vote Bawumia for his humility, hard work’
A Senior Campaign Aide to the NPP presidential candidate, Alhaji Salifu Sa-eed, has indicated that Dr. Bawumia will receive massive votes in the five regions of the North due to his humility and hard work.
The former Northern Regional Minister said the Dr. Bawumia has conducted himself well to the admiration of all key stakeholders including the traditional leaders, clergy, Imams and opinion leaders among others.
“I can tell you that he [Dr Bawumia] has conducted himself very well to the key stakeholders of the five northern regions and they have come to appreciate his conduct. He is very intelligent, he is humble, he is results-oriented and he is very focused and he understands the wishes and aspirations of the people of the North.
“That comes to explain why since he was picked as the running mate to the point that he became the Vice President, every election year in the five northern regions we increase votes.
“We’re saying these things based on facts and figures. When I came here as the Regional Minister we had 31 constituencies in the northern region and out of it the NPP had only 9 seats and the NDC holding 22 seats but Dr. Bawumia brought himself down to the people, the youth, the women, Imams and Pastors and today the NPP has 16 seats and the NDC have 15 seats,” he stated.
Pro-poor policies
Mr. Salifu Sa-eed noted the numerous pro-poor policy interventions introduced by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government since 2017 have uplifted the socioeconomic livelihoods of the people from absolute poverty to relative poverty margin.
Dagbon Peace
The former Regional Minister said the NDC can no longer do chieftaincy politics since the age-long Dagbon chieftaincy impasse was resolved in 2019.
“We worked closely with the chiefs and key stakeholders and we were able to resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis and that has helped. Some people were not voting the NPP because the NDC was using the chieftaincy to campaign and we have resolved it” he maintained.
Meanwhile, thousands of gallant NPP supporters participated in the health walk which lasted for over three hours.
The initiative forms part of strategies of the party to reinvigorate the spirit of the party’s grassroots in the various electoral areas and communities as the campaign intensifies.
Notable stalwarts of the NPP who participated in the over 6-kilometers walk included the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu; former Northern Regional Minister who is also a Senior Campaign Advisor to the NPP Flagbearer, Alhaji Salifu Sa-eed; NPP Regional Chairman, Mohammed Baantima Samba; Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Hajia Abibata Shani Zakaria; and some Parliamentary candidates in the region.
