The embattled New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant in the Bimbila constituency, Alhaji Ahmed Zaruk Nuhu, has announced that he would not be contesting the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections on December 7, as an Independent Candidate.

He noted that upon extensive consultations with community leaders, including Chiefs, elders, and youth, it was widely agreed that “I should not pursue an independent candidacy in the upcoming election.”

The disgruntled NPP stalwart in the Bimbila constituency in a statement issued on Wednesday (August 21, 2024) indicated that, “Following my controversial and unjust disqualification from the Parliamentary primaries contest in the Bimbilla constituency, there was a notable sense of discontent within the constituency and Northern region at large.”

He added, “The dissatisfaction arose due to the manner in which I was disqualified from the race. Various suggestions emerged, including calls from constituents in Bimbilla for me to run as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2024 Presidential and parliamentary elections.”

Nevertheless, Alhaji Zaruk as he is widely known stated that he would continue to work diligently for the NPP to break the eight in this year’s general election.

“Consequently, I remain an active and committed member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), diligently contributing to the party’s efforts to break the eight, Insha Allah. It is crucial to emphasize that this decision was made after extensive consultations with the constituents of the Bimbilla constituency, driven by our commitment to the NPP’s agenda” he categorically stated.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Ahmed Zaruk Nuhu, has called on his support base to disregard any suggestion that he has been offered money to refrain from running in the impending elections.

“Any unfounded speculations suggesting that I was offered money to refrain from running as an independent candidate in the election should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves” the statement captured.

Background:

Mr. Ahmed Zaruk Nuhu picked nomination forms to contest the contest the NPP incumbent Member of Parliament for Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul in the 27th January, 2024, parliamentary primary of the party.

His name was however removed by the Northern Regional vetting committee with an explanation that his forms were incomplete.

The development angered some supporters who massed up at the constituency office on Tuesday evening, January 2, demanding reasons why their candidate’s was removed from the list containing names of persons to be vetted.

They burnt tyres and pelted stones at the party office but the timely intervention of the military to disperse the disgruntled supporters saved the situation.
