World Pound-for-Pound boxing champion, Saul Canelo Alvarez, will be fighting Light Heavyweight Champion, Dimitry Bivol on May 7th, 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada, U.S.
Canelo who was to set to move up to cruiserweight to fight for a world title in the fifth division of his career, when his trainer Eddy Reynoso successfully petitioned the WBC on November 15, 2021, to allow Álvarez to challenge WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu. The fight did not come off after a mandatory appeal was made for a title rematch against Thabiso Mchunu on 29 January 2022, Makabu won via split decison.
Before then, the Mexican had knocked out Caleb Plant at Super Middleweight last year in November in the 11th round of a title match.
Canelo is a Four weight boxing champion but Dmitry Yuryevich Bivol has been the WBA Light Heavyweight Champion from 2017. Some critics believe this will be a one sided bout for Canelo as it has been in his last 4 title matches. Yet, this is a good opportunity for Bivol to prove critics wrong.
Bivol and Canelo faced-off on 2nd March 2022 for the first time and things seem to be well underway. More on this will come as the match day draws closer.
