Former Vice President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has received overwhelming endorsement from the Central Region ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
Party delegates in the region are publicly backing the 2024 presidential candidate to lead the party again for the 2028 general election.
Dr Bawumia engaged with NPP stakeholders in the Region last week before moving to the Eastern region this week and interacted with party delegates who have declared their unflinching support across constituencies for his bid to get the nod as the party’s flagbearer.
He received a major boost in his presidential campaign on the final day of the regional tour on Saturday, November 22, 2025, with an emphatic declaration of support from NPP youth organisers.
Thirty out of 45 constituency youth and deputy youth organisers openly declared their support for Dr Bawumia to be retained during the party’s presidential primary on 31st January, 2026.
Following the formal announcement of their support, the organisers issued a statement, signed by all of them, in which they gave reasons why they declared their support for the former Vice President.
“After several weeks of attentively listening to and evaluating the conversations, policy proposals, and track records of all presidential aspirants, we are convinced, more than ever, that Dr Bawumia is the best person to lead our party and the nation.
“We have arrived at this conclusion purely on the basis of facts, a comparative assessment of the issues, and an unwavering commitment to the party’s success and nothing else,” the youth organisers concluded in the statement.
The open declaration of the youth organisers, as well as the massive support from the other delegates, including current and former executives, electoral area coordinators, and polling station executives, is the biggest and marks a significant boost for Dr Bawumia in the Central Region, which is the home region of his main contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
Public endorsements
From Awutu Senya, where Dr Bawumia started the tour, through to Effutu, Gomoa, Asikuma Odoben Brakwa and Mfantseman Constituencies, the former President received public endorsements from key constituency groups, who are considered strategic assets in internal campaigns.
Having received a series of open supports from key groups on the first two days of his tour of the region, the strong wave of support continued for the former Vice President with more open declarations.
In Assikuma Odoben Brakwa, the constituency chairman, on behalf of his people, declared support for Dr Bawumia. In Mfantseman Constituency, 37 out of 47 former constituency executives, who are now eligible to vote, declared their support, and 34 out of 36 electoral area coordinators of the constituency also declared for the former Vice President.
Among the 37 former Mfantseman constituency executives who declared for Dr Bawumia were two veterans, 84 and 80 years old, described as the oldest delegates of the Constituency.
“We have seen what hard work Dr Bawumia has done for this party over the years, in 2012 and 2016. And he deserves the credit,” the Constituency Chairman of Assikuma Odobeng Brakwa pointed out.
Rallying his constituents, the chairman said Dr Bawumia’s proposal for inclusivity and the promotion of the welfare of party members at the constituency level was appealing.
“I want to urge all of you to massively support Dr. Bawumia so that when he wins, he can implement his 10 constituencies appointment for our constituency to also benefit. I believe Dr. Bawumia because he has done it before. He is unique, and he is a visionary. Above all, he is the most marketed,” he added.
Bawumia grateful
Dr Bawumia concluded his tour of the Central Region last Saturday, with visits to Hemang Lower Denkyira, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem, Cape Coast North, and Cape Coast South Constituencies.
He thanked the NPP delegates in the Central region for their warm reception.
“It’s been an exciting week of direct interaction with our party stakeholders in the region, to share my transformational ideas for party and country, and to also express my appreciation for all the work we have done together over the years.
“I cannot forget the grand welcomes, the declaration of support by various groups and the encouraging responses to my policies, especially my quest to prioritise inclusiveness within our party, institutionalise the welfare of party members, and spread appointment opportunities to all constituencies in our future government,” Dr Bawumia stated on his Facebook timeline.
