Chelsea Football Club have announced that head coach Enzo Maresca has left the club, bringing an end to his time at Stamford Bridge by mutual agreement.
In a statement released by the club, Chelsea acknowledged Maresca’s achievements during his tenure, highlighting success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. The club described those trophies as an important part of its recent history and thanked the Italian coach for his contribution.
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup,” the statement said. “Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions.”
Despite the silverware, Chelsea indicated that performances this season have not met expectations, particularly with several key objectives still on the line. The club remains involved in four competitions, including the battle to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
According to the statement, both Maresca and the club agreed that a change in leadership would give the team the best possible chance of turning things around and finishing the season strongly.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” Chelsea said.
No immediate announcement was made regarding a replacement, but the club is expected to move quickly as the season reaches a critical stage.
Chelsea concluded by wishing Maresca well in his future endeavours, bringing a respectful close to a partnership that delivered trophies but ultimately fell short of longer-term ambitions.
