New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has urged party delegates to choose a candidate who can win the 2028 presidential election.
He made the call as the party prepares to go to the polls on January 31, 2026, to elect its flagbearer for the next general election.
Speaking during his campaign tour of the Central Region, Mr Agyapong appealed to delegates to rise above personal loyalties and sentiment and make a decision that secures the future of the party.
“I am humbly pleading with you, my delegates, to do me this one favour on 31st January.
“Let us not just elect a flagbearer for the sake of it. Let us, for the first time, choose a flagbearer who truly has what it takes to win power for the NPP in 2028,” Mr Agyapong who is also a former Member of Parliament (MP) Assin Central added.
According to him, the upcoming flagbearer contest presents the NPP with a defining moment that must be approached with clarity of purpose and a strong focus on winning back government.
Mr Agyapong stressed that the choice delegates make will have far-reaching consequences, not only for the party’s electoral fortunes but also for its cohesion and long-term relevance.
“This decision is bigger than any individual; it is about the future of our party, our unity and our hope of returning to government,” he noted.
According to him, the NPP cannot afford to enter the 2028 elections with a candidate who lacks broad appeal and the capacity to mobilise both the party’s grassroots and floating voters nationwide.
As the race for the NPP flagbearership intensifies, Mr Agyapong indicated his is a winnable candidate, arguing that his track record, national presence and grassroots appeal place him in a strong position to lead the party back to power in 2028.
The NPP goes to the polls on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into what is expected to be a highly competitive general election.
