THE CUSTODIAN can authoritatively report that the New Patriotic Party Savelugu Constituency Executives elections will be organized in the coming weeks in line with the relevant provisions of the party’s constitution. Sources at the NPP Headquarters in Accra has said a roadmap has been put together and a date will soon be announced for all the processes involved in line with the elections.
The source briefed THE CUSTODIAN that the New Patriotic Party National Council has already directed the Northern Regional party to take the necessary steps to organize the polls after the declaration of the 2020 Savelugu Parliamentary elections petition at the Tamale High Court.
THE CUSTODIAN Northern Regional Correspondent, Mohammed Gadafi, has gathered that the Regional Chairman and his executives has been tasked to engage various stakeholders in the constituency pertaining to the conduct of the polls.
Meanwhile, some quarters within the NPP in the constituency have accused the Regional Chairman, Mohammed Baantima Samba, of plotting against the conduct of the executives’ elections to favor the incumbent Constituency Chairman.
But, our source at the party’s Asylum down offices said nothing stops the conduct of the elections since it is a constitutional requirement to elect the party leadership when their tenure of office expires after every four years.
“No one can usurp their powers to stop a legitimate and constitutional process. Similarly, the Akwatia and Jomoro constituencies were also directed to hold their respective constituency executives elections which they have since done after the court judgments of their election petitions and Savelugu is no different or exception.”
Meanwhile, many NPP supporters in the Savelugu constituency have wondered why the party regional body is dragging their feet and adamant to organize the elections.
In a press statement last month, the New Patriotic Party Concerned Youth of Savelugu said the unwillingness of the regional party to conduct the elections is a deliberate attempt to kill the soul of the party in the constituency.
“A lot of ineffable sacrifices have been made by our forebears and gallant patriots towards the progress and sustainability of the NPP in the Savelugu constituency. We will not sit aloof and allow some selected few to destroy the gains the party is making in our constituency for their selfish and parochial interests” the statement added.
