The Chairman of the governing New Patriotic in the Northern Region, Mr. Mohammed Baantima Samba has distributed 2,500 medium seize hand sanitizers to managers of Radio and Television Stations in Tamale as his personal support in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic disease. Similarly, Chairman “Do all” as he is affectionately called by supporters of the party donated the same items to officers of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service.
The Communications Director of the NPP, Mr. Sule Salifu led a team on behalf of Chairman Samba to present the items to management and senior officers of these institutions at their respective offices in the region. Sule Salifu explained to the Custodianghonline.com in an interview that, the donation is a personal initiative of Chairman Samba to the media owners and the state security agencies, stating their role in the fight against the disease cannot be underestimated.
He commended the local media for committing precious airtime to educate the public on the safety measures outlined by government including the social distancing and hand washing protocols.
However, he noted the media organizations and security agencies must be equipped with these protective items to enhance their safety so that they can discharge their duties to the nation. He said “Chairman observed so far that, the media institutions have been left out in the distribution of these items and other personal protective equipment.”
“He therefore, thought it wise to donate this as his personal support to all radio and television stations in the region so that they can protect their staff and people who visit the place since they engage clients and so many people including political parties on daily basis” Mr. Sule added.
Meanwhile, the EMT Basic of the Ghana National Ambulance Service in Tamale, Seidu Osman Amankwa lauded the NPP Chairman for the gesture, saying this has come at a time we needed the items the most. He noted “It’s unfortunate that some of our staff has just left for Kumasi with blood samples for testing and we couldn’t get sanitizers for them, so this has come at a very crucial time.”
For his part, the General Manager of Tamale base Radio Justice, Mr. Alhassan Mashud Damba expressed his excitement and thanked the NPP Business man cum politician for the donation. He said the NPP is the first political party in Tamale to embark on such exercise to support the radio station.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus now in Ghana stands at one hundred and forty one (141). This includes the routine surveillance of 62 confirmed cases with 55 patients responding to treatment and five deaths as well as seventy nine confirmed cases on mandatory quarantine.
