The Northern Regional Secretary of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Mr Mohammed Nuhu Jingli has formally resigned as a member of the party. In a statement released on Wednesday (December 1, 2021), Mr Nuhu who doubles as the Deputy General Secretary of the CPP in charge of operations thanked the party for the opportunity to serve in his various capacities.
“I wish to send my heartfelt gratitude to the rank and file of the party for the confidence they conferred on me by appointing me as the Deputy General Secretary (Operations) and also electing me to serve as Northern Regional Secretary for two consecutive terms. I thank you all.”
Mr Nuhu in the statement copied to the National Chairman of the CPP said that the decision for his resignation is personal and takes immediate effect.
“Kindly be informed that the decision of my resignation is personal and based on Principle.”
Meanwhile, one of the critical objectives for the establishment of the CPP is to serve as a vigorous, conscious political vanguard for removing all forms of oppression and for the establishment of a democratic government.
The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Dr Kwame Nkrumah; Ghana’s first President broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).
However, the internal wrangles of the political party seem to take it away as once a political force to reckon in the Ghanaian political area in order to perform responsibility.
The Parliamentary seat the CPP won was the Jomoro constituency by Samia Yaba Nkrumah, daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah but lost in 2012. They have since not had a representative in Parliament and the current development would further deepen the cracks in the party ahead of the 2024 polls.
