The Tamale Dakpema, Naa Fuseini Bawa Bembarigu has given his full support and backing to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) of the Volta River Authority to resume its full operations in the Tamale metropolis.

The operations of the power distribution company has been grounded for days now after some residents of Tamale last Saturday vandalized the NEDCo Northern Regional Office and attacked the Lamashegu Divisional Police Command with stones and other objects.

However, the Chief at a news conference on Tuesday (28 September, 2021) condemned the recent disturbances, adding this act of impunity would not be condoned in Tamale.

He intimated people in other parts of the country pay their bills and Tamale will not be an exception.

“If it happens that you have been disconnected, negotiate with them (VRA/NEDCo) on how you can pay the debts – either on monthly basis or weekly, so that they will reconnect the power for you” he advised.

Naa Fuseini Bawa stated workers of VRA/NEDCo will resume today Wednesday across the region and urged the public to cooperate with them and allow peace to prevail in the Tamale metropolis and every part of the northern region.

He said the rampant disregard of the law will not be countenance anymore and promised the law breakers will deal decisively.

“If any recalcitrant person fails to adhere to this caution and destroy any property of VRA, the law will deal with you and nobody will intervene in the matter” the Chief vehemently stated.

He added it is mandatory on every electricity consumer in the country to pay their utility bills to enable an efficient service delivery from the power distribution company and therefore cautioned those violating the laws of the country to refrain such acts.

“If there is breakdown of a transformer in any community, the people will remain in darkness until the VRA/NEDCo engineers come to fix it. They don’t manufacture the transformers, they buy them abroad and thereby it is through the revenue they generate through the bills we pay that enable them to buy these machines to generate power for our usage.

I want to urge the public especially the youth to allow peace prevail, we are not supposed to fight with VRA/NEDCo and the police, we must live harmoniously with them for the development of Dagbon and Northern Region” he admonished.
