The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, will face a daily fine of GH₵10,000 from August 14 until it submits detailed pricing information requested by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday [August 15], Mr George said the penalty followed the company’s continued failure to comply with a directive to provide its bouquet pricing models for regulatory review.

He explained that the NCA first made the request on August 4, with an initial deadline of August 5, later extended at the company’s request to August 11.

“Per the Electronic Communications Act, failure to produce information requested by the Regulator attracts a GHS10,000 daily fine,” he wrote.

“In good faith, I waived the fine from the 5th till yesterday when I met the management again and they still had not submitted the requested information.”

Mr George disclosed that the fines would be imposed until the company provides the required data to enable the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation to make “better decisions” on pay-TV pricing in Ghana.

The minister emphasised that his actions were driven by a commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring fairness. “I remain committed to ensuring that the best deal is secured for the Ghanaian people,” he stated, signing off his post with, “For God and Country.”

The development comes amid an ongoing standoff between the government and MultiChoice over calls for a 30 per cent reduction in subscription fees, a demand the company has rejected as “not tenable.”
