The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly plotting to assassinate a chief in the Eastern Region.
According to a statement signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the suspects — identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth — were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation.
The operation uncovered a plot to eliminate the chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar, scheduled to take place on October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.
Police say intelligence received on October 11 led a team to infiltrate the suspects’ network. During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GHC 50,000 to undercover officers to kill the chief and another woman who was reportedly lined up for installation as Queen Mother.
Investigations further revealed that Asor instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to assist in identifying the victims’ residences.
Seth allegedly guided the officers to the homes of both the chief and the woman and provided a photograph of the chief to facilitate the planned assassination. The suspects reportedly promised an additional GHC50,000 upon successful execution of the plot.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding the lives and security of residents, particularly traditional leaders across the region.
