The Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has donated office equipment and other needed logistics to the Winneba Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The items are to enable the GIS to efficiently perform its duties so as to serve the people diligently.
The items provided by the lawmaker are desktop computers, printers, air conditioners, swivel chairs, file cabinets, landline telephones, workstations and many more.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin who is also the Deputy Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament in his remarks during a colourful event at the Immigration Office in Winneba to hand over the items promised the Immigration Service of an ultra-modern edifice this year.
“Deputy Commissioner of Immigration who is the regional boss, let me make this promise to you and please carry this to my good friend and senior at the bar, the Controller General of Immigration, Winneba is going to give you an ultra-modern office. You are going to have a new office which will be a store-building. I’m compel to give the deadline that, by the time we will celebrate our next Aboakyer festival, it would be commissioned.
“One of the items for the media team, one also for the commander’s office, one desktop computer, a printer. Then the senior officer’s office, we have work station ergonomic chairs for nine personnel’s and then nine desktop computers, then two horse-power air conditions, a printer and a photo copier machine.”
He added, “Honourable Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Presiding Member, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and the Regional Commander of Immigration for the Central region, the Assistant Director of Prisons who have just assumed duties at the Winneba prisons and the former in charge of the Prisons Service in Winneba who is here with us, the former ECOWAS Secretary General and his family who are here to support this program.
“First let me thank all of you for your presence. Today is Ghana Immigrations Day. And how did it start, we had a program at the Methodist Cathedral a couple of months back and one officer engaged me on the challenges that the sector faces. We discussed and I learnt she persevered and never gave up. Coincidentally she bears the first name of my mom, Esther. We decided to discuss the way forward.
“On the way forward, we look at the problems and I decided we solve them once and for all. So, by the Grace of God, an officer in my office together with her went round to do the purchase. But there is something that I must commend them for, they came back with the balance of the money. According to them after everything they managed to get a discount of ten thousand Ghana cedis. I concluded that we add something to it and give as a new year package to every officer for their good work”, the Effutu MP concluded.
