The Ghana Library Authority has raised concerns about the declining use of libraries across the country.

Speaking to JoyNews at the International Children’s Day in Accra, the Deputy Head of the Ghana Library Authority, Richard Obeng Asante, urged the youth to take advantage of modern educational facilities to enhance their literacy to explore their passions.

“We offer a wide range of facilities designed to help your child acquire valuable knowledge relevant to today’s society. We strongly encourage parents to either visit us in person or arrange an educational trip for their children.

“These trips often include visits to places like the Kwame Nkrumah Museum and other significant landmarks. These experiences are not only educational but also enhance the children’s reading and overall learning”.

Children’s Library Authority is therefore taking action against the lack of essential learning materials becoming a hindrance to the growth of younger children as a result of writing on the floor.

During the launch of the event, the Municipal Director of Education for Ayawaso West, Margaret Kaba, tasked the youth to nurture their talents and skills through the continuous pursuit of knowledge.

“As parents and educators, we face numerous challenges in ensuring that our children have access to quality literature. It can be overwhelming to prioritize finding the right books amid our other responsibilities.

“However, we believe that with the support of individuals and organizations in society, we can overcome these obstacles. By partnering with others and seeking sponsorships, we can provide our children with the resources they need to read and grow. After all, true freedom comes through the power of reading.”

A student at the 37 Military Hospital Basic School, Asantewaa Nwolley, shared how reading has transformed her life.

“Reading brings people together because it teaches us how to connect with others. It offers so much more, too — as they say, reading is like medicine for the brain The more we read each day, the more our brains adapt and grow.”
