The Assemblyman for Glefe Electoral Area in the Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Charles Owusu-Afriyie has called on government to set a police post in the area.

According to him, the police post will help police officers prevent and solve cases of crime in the community, particularly during voting as there were reported cases of deaths during the previous general elections.

Mr. Owusu-Afriyie bemoaned that Glefe has earned a bad name due to negative behaviour of some residents, especially during elections.

“We are part of Ghana, we are part of greater Accra and Dansoman to be precise and therefore we vote. But there is insecurity sometimes as a result of brutalities during voting.

“The negative effects of brutality and assault have caused panic and fear in most people, but the construction of a police post will help ensure that residents go to the polls to cast their votes at Gbebu (Glefe) electoral area, which is noted for some notoriety with insecurity”, he added.

Mr. Owusu-Afriyie said there is mounting evidence that there is no support for leaders, especially the police who want to handle criminals in the area.

He said effective portrayals of good characters are very critical when voting and so it is important for his people to put up their best behaviour during elections.

Mr. Owusu-Afriyie regretted that his people are sometimes engaged in negative activities such as stealing, pick pocketing and gang fighting.

A visit to Glefe last Monday saw the assemblyman in high spirit.

He gave assurance that he was ready to put his life and time on the line to make the community a comfortable place to stay.

Mr. Owusu-Afriyie noted that with the help of a police patrol and detention of perpetrators of crime and criminal suspects, the area is becoming a comfortable place to live.

According to him, the decision to introduce police patrol is to promote responsible behaviour that will protect the community.

“Fighting criminals is about our future, it is about our lives and resources so we need the government and everyone on board to make it happen”, he stressed.
