Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Ghana’s former Vice-President and the New Patriotic Party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, Samira Bawumia, have been safely relocated from Qatar to another country, diplomatic sources have confirmed to Accra-based Joy FM.
The relocation was carried out by Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region following direct instructions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Acting on behalf of the Government of Ghana, the Minister directed embassies across the Middle East to take immediate and decisive steps to ensure the safety of Dr Bawumia, his spouse, and members of their delegation.
Embassy officials subsequently engaged host authorities to coordinate swift and discreet travel arrangements.
While specific operational details remain undisclosed for security reasons, officials familiar with the process describe it as smooth, carefully managed, and executed with a high level of professionalism.
Beyond the relocation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all Ghanaian nationals in the region.
Government sources say monitoring efforts have been intensified in response to the evolving security situation, with diplomatic missions placed on heightened alert.
Authorities indicate that consular teams remain on standby to provide emergency assistance and other necessary support to Ghanaians residing in or transiting through affected areas.
Citizens have also been urged to stay in close contact with the nearest Ghanaian mission and to adhere strictly to official advisories as the situation continues to develop.
