The Executive Director of the Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA), an NGO based in the northern region, Hajia Alima Sagito Sa-eed has distributed Personal Protection Equipment to beggars on the major streets of Tamale, physicality challenged persons and a group of underprivileged widows in the region to commemorate this year’s Mother’s Day over the weekend.
The exercise was supported by Non-State Actors for Health and Development in Ghana of which the SWIDA-GH Executive Director is the representative in the northern region.
The vulnerable groups received face masks and hand sanitizer in the wake of community infection of the coronavirus pandemic and a little token from the First lady of the Northern Region.
In an interview, Hajia Sagito explained the effects of the COVID-19 crisis have affected the behavior of people because of the various protocols outlined in the country.
She said this has a consequential impact on these vulnerable groups whose livelihoods, she observed usually depend on others.
She noted the economic impact of the pandemic on these underprivileged people cannot be underestimated, stating further that, their ability to raise money is a major problem.
As an organization, Hajia Sagito Sa-eed disclosed the None State Actors for Health and Development have been distributing free PPE in the country under its “Use your nose mask campaign”.
“The organization procured some nose masks nationally and distributed to regional representatives so that we can share at our own discretion, so I realized that it will be of help to these three groups” she stated.
She disclosed that, one thousand (1000) underprivileged people in the region are targeted to benefit from the benevolent gesture.
However, Hajia Alima Sagito Sa-eed used the occasion to congratulate mothers across the globe.
“I am very happy that we are not using the Mother’s Day to stay at home but out here to encourage more mothers to protect themselves and their families. So I want to wish all mothers a happy mother’s day, as we have been doing already, contributing to development of the country. “We should add to the agenda for the fight against COVID-19 and ensure our families are safe” a happy Sagito Sa-eed said.
