The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formed the campaign team for its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama without notable names, which has set tongues wagging.
Conspicuously missing in the 2024 campaign team are former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and former Minority Chief Whip Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka.
The two close allies were removed from their leadership positions in Parliament in a degrading manner that was described by political watchers as a ‘coup d’état.’
It has been gleaned that the two were initially part of the campaign team but were later dropped following strong protestations by some influential persons closed to the NDC flagbearer.
The Mahama associates, according to insider sources, see Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka as “haters”, who would not work in the interest of the NDC flagbearer and therefore must not be part of his campaign team.
Incidentally, the man who replaced Haruna Iddrisu as minority leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been given a special place in the Campaign Steering Committee that will supervise all the sub-committees of the team.
It was initially rumoured that Haruna Iddrisu who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, will be in charge John Mahama’s campaign in the Northern Sector.
However, the former minority leader is not even part of the larger campaign team as it is learnt that, the man who attracts his party supporters like a magnet, is currently seen by pro-Mahama group as a pariah.
