The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the immediate suspension of the Principal of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College in Nalerigu, Ibrahim Chimsi, over alleged unauthorised admissions.
The Minister’s attention was brought to the matter when he paid a working visit to Nalerigu, the North East Regional capital on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as part of a tour of the Upper East, North East and Northern Regions.
The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Health, Isaac Ofei Baah, on Friday, February 27.
Following preliminary findings, Mr. Akandoh ordered the immediate suspension of the Head of the College pending further investigations.
He stressed that adherence to established admission protocols is non-negotiable and further warned that any Head of institution found engaging in unauthorised practices will face strict sanctions.
The Juaboso lawmaker reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the maintenance of high standards in health training institutions across the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister during the tour inspected health facilities and training institutions to assess operations and service delivery.
He also interacted with various with key stakeholders in the three regions, including the Regional Ministers, Municipal and District Chief Executives and officials of the Ghana Health Service on critical matters bothering on quality healthcare delivery and postings of medical doctors to rural Ghana.
