The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted a GHC100,000.00 bail with two sureties to a house help over an alleged GHC80,000.00 fraud.

Faustina Boatemaa, 53, denied conspiring with one Patrick Darko, at large, to defraud Mr Samuel Tweneboah, the complainant, of GHC80,000.00 under the pretext of selling to him a 0.12 acres/ parcel of land together with an uncompleted structure.

The court presided over by Justice Enid Sarful-Sau, a High Court Judge with additional responsibility at the Circuit Court, ordered Boatemaa to return on August 7, 2025.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah said Mr Tweneboah was a businessman living at Satellite in Accra, whilst Boatemaa, a house help, stayed at Dansoman.

In September 2023, Boatemaa informed one Lydia Tweneboah, a witness in the case, that her brother, Darko, who was in South Africa, had 0.12 acres of land with an uncompleted church structure at Satellite for sale.

Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah said Lydia later informed the complainant and they both met with Boatemaa, who led them to the site.

After bargaining, the accused accepted to take GHC80,000.00 for the land and the uncompleted church structure on it, after which the complainant paid GHC40,000 as part payment.

On September 15, 2023, Darko sent a bank account number to one Richard Kwadu Sam, father in-law of the complainant, and he paid GHC20,000.00 into the said account.

The Court heard that on October 2, 2023, Darko again sent a different bank account number to the complainant, who deposited another GHC20,000.00, making the total payment of GHC80,000.00.

Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah said Boatemaa later issued a land indenture to the complainant, which later turned out to be fake.

In December, 2023, the complainant deposited 1,000 cement blocks on the land in preparation to develop it but had a voice message from Darko through the complainant’s father in-law to vacate the said land.

The same month, the complainant visited the land and saw the inscription: “Property of Marbel family Stay off” boldly written on the uncompleted structure.

However, after several attempts to contact Boatemaa and Darko proved futile, Tweneboah reported the case to the Adjen Kotoku Police and the accused was arrested, prosecution said.

Boatemaa admitted showing the land to the complainant as well as collecting GHC40,000.00 as part payment.

She was charged with the offence and arraigned after investigations.

Police are seeking a court order directing the bank through which the monies were transferred to furnish them with the photographs and details of the said account holders to assist in investigations.
