Will Smith has written a public apology to Chris Rock, the Williams Family, and the crew of the King Richard movie in a Instagram post for his behaviour at the Oscars over the weekend.
The 53 year old actor slapped comedian Chris Rock for a joke about the hair of Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett. Jada is believed to have a health condition which causes hair loss. Due to this Jada has her hair trimmed to the skull.
During the Academy awards, Chris Rock made a joke about the Jada’s hair style which sounded funny to Smith at first, only for him to walk up stage after a few seconds to slap Chris Rock.
On the night, Will Smith won an award for the role he played as the father of the Williams sisters in their life story titled ‘King Richard’ at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
The father of two wrote on his Instagram handle:
“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
I would also like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.
I am a work in progress
Sincerely,
Will.
