The Akuapem South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Frank Aidoo has stated that he is not interested in contesting in parliamentary primary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.
Mr. Aidoo has been accused of supporting unrecognised group called NPP Akuapem South Grassroots (NASGRAT) to create disaffection against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, Mr. O. B. Amoah.
The group was also said to have been sponsored by some faceless betrayers to demonstrate against the Akuapem South MP who increased both presidential and parliamentary votes for the governing NPP in the 2020 general election.
The intended demo, THE CUSTODIAN gathered, was to push the MP to say he will not contest in the 2024 parliamentary election so the MCE can contest as the NPP guidelines do not allow Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and some party executives to contest incumbent MPs when it is less than two years to general elections.
However, speaking in an exclusive interview with THE CUSTODIAN in his office in Aburi last week, the MCE vehemently denied the claim, insisting he is not behind the group.
“The group is not recognised in NPP and I’m not behind them. I will not do anything against Hon. O. B. Amoah, whom, I see as my senior brother.
“I will not contest Hon. O. B. Amoah in the parliamentary primary. In fact, I will not contest even if Honourable O. B. Amoah decides not to contest,” the MCE stated.
Mr. Aidoo described the Akuapem South MP as “the most visible, highest profile politician in the Constituency in over a decade and most reliable to lead the Constituency for development”.
Mr. O.B. Amoah has won the Akuapem South seat for three consecutive times on the ticket of the NPP since it was created in in 2012.
He first won the then Aburi/Nsawam constituency seat in 2008 before it was split into Akuapem South and Nsawam/Adoagyiri constituencies.
