Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed his confidence in his vision and ability to lead Ghana into a new phase of economic transformation, innovation, and inclusive growth.

Speaking at Dormaa in the Bono Region ahead of the NPP presidential primaries, Dr. Bawumia stated that he has “great ideas” capable of modernising Ghana’s economy and improving livelihoods across all sectors.

He explained that his vision is rooted in technology-driven governance, efficient public sector reforms, and a digital economy that empowers entrepreneurs and strengthens the private sector.

According to Dr. Bawumia, Ghana is at a crucial turning point that demands innovative thinking, bold reforms, and decisive leadership to fully unlock its potential.

Highlighting the impact of his digital initiatives, he noted that the mobile money interoperability system introduced under his tenure has created over 900,000 jobs nationwide.

He said the interoperability framework has not only deepened financial inclusion but also spurred job creation across both urban and rural communities.

Dr. Bawumia observed that unemployment remains one of the major challenges facing Ghana’s youth, stressing that only transformative leadership and innovative ideas can deliver sustainable employment opportunities.

“Ideas build nations and ideas create jobs… Ghana is the fastest-growing mobile money market in Africa. Before mobile money interoperability, there were only eight million mobile money subscribers in Ghana, but now it is about 24 million, which has significantly boosted the mobile money industry and created a lot of jobs,” he said.

“Through just one of my ideas, mobile money interoperability alone has registered over 900,000 mobile money vendors, thus creating tens of thousands of sustainable jobs for the youth of our country,” he added.

He explained that the interoperability system—launched in 2018 as part of the government’s digital transformation agenda—has enabled seamless transactions between bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and e-zwich cards.

This innovation, he said, has enhanced business operations, expanded the mobile money ecosystem, and empowered thousands of agents and vendors across the country.

Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed that digital financial services remain central to the government’s goal of building a robust, technology-driven, and inclusive economy.

He further cited Ghana’s achievements in digital innovation within the sub-region, referencing initiatives such as the Ghana Card, Digital Address System, and e-levy platform integration.

The Vice President pledged to deepen ongoing digital reforms and emphasised that continued progress in fintech and digital payments would open more opportunities for young people.

He urged NPP delegates to evaluate leadership based on ideas and competence rather than financial status.

“Just one idea I proposed has created tens of thousands of jobs. So this tells you that being a great leader and building a country and creating jobs is not about how much money you have in your pocket. It is about your ideas, and I have shown through my service as Vice President that I have great ideas to transform the country if given the chance as President,” he stated.
