The Ministry for the Interior has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region, following advice from the North East Regional Security Council.
The curfew, enforced by Executive Instrument, will be in effect from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, starting Saturday, February 15, 2025.
This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak on Saturday, February 15.
The government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth to exercise restraint in the face of ongoing challenges and to seek peaceful, non-violent solutions to conflicts in the area.
Additionally, a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons has been declared within Walewale and its environs.
The statement warned that any individual found in possession of such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region and called for cooperation from all residents to restore stability.
