The embattled District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Danso, has denied collusion with people to engage in illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
An audio recording in circulation allegedly captured the voice of the Mr. Danso conspiring with illegal miners to engage in galamsey.
He was alleged to have been involved in dodgy dealings and transactions linked to mining concessions within his jurisdiction.
However, THE CUSTODIAN gathered that the DCE maintained the voice in the audio was not his, and that the tape was generated by unscrupulous individuals who wanted to get him out of office.
Mr. Danso has been suspended over his alleged involvement in illegal mining following the viral audio.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave the directive for his suspension.
The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe in a letter asked Yaw Danso to step aside for investigation into the claims.
“The president has directed the suspension of Yaw Danso, district chief executive for Bosome Freho District Assembly with immediate, pending investigations into his alleged engagement in illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
“In view of the above, you are requested to provide oversight responsibility for the management and administrative issues concerning the district, until further notice”, the letter said.
Some Assembly members in Bosome Freho had called on the presidency to look into the allegations.
Speaking with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at a special meeting last week, President Akufo-Addo indicated that Mr. Danso had been invited to defend himself against the charges.
Earlier, the President summoned Danso after the viral tape allegedly implicated him of illegal mining.
