Police personnel stationed at the Kantanso–Asankare Barrier in the Juaso District have intercepted a large cache of ammunition during a routine operation, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., a team led by Chief Inspector Augustine K. Tettegah — together with Chief Inspector Timbim A. Solomon, Inspector Desmond Kwabena Kwankye, Inspector Enoch Baah Boateng, G/Sgt. Samuel Kwaku Addae, G/Sgt. Benjamin Effah Boadu, G/Sgt. Ansah O. Martha, G/Const. Yaro K. Ateemah, G/Const. Prince Osei Bonsu and G/Const. Ali Mikdad — intercepted a Kia Granbird bus, registration AK 1309-21, traveling from Accra to Tamale with 45 passengers on board.

The bus, driven by 42-year-old Mohammed Gzali with his mate Mohammed Jabir, 22, appeared suspicious, prompting officers to alert the Divisional Commander, C/Supt. Frederick Kojo Asare Mensah.
He arrived at the scene alongside the Juaso District Commander, Supt. Benjamin Valentine Mensah, the District Crime Officer, ASP Salifu Abubakari, and D/C/Inspr. Francis Kwasi Zaglago.

A thorough search of the vehicle ensued. Officers discovered a fertilizer sack concealed among passengers’ luggage.
Upon inspection, the sack was found to contain 1,050 AAA and BB cartridges, raising immediate concerns of illegal arms trafficking.

When questioned, the driver claimed the sack had been handed to him at the station as a parcel to be delivered to an individual known as “Oboye” in Tamale. Police have not yet verified the identity or location of the intended recipient.

The bus has since been impounded, and the seized ammunition secured as evidence. Both the driver and his mate are in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as the case develops.
