In line with his vision to bolster the creative industry, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer hopeful and Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has disclosed plans to establish a dedicated fund for the construction of state-of-the-art studios across the nation when he becomes Ghana’s president.
Addressing the absence of high-quality studio facilities in the country, he stressed the urgent need to invest into the creative arts sector, enabling artistes and producers to deliver top-notch music videos and cinematic productions.
Speaking with Starr FM’s Bola Ray on Thursday, October 5, 2023, the renowned politician and entrepreneur outlined his vision for Ghana’s entertainment industry which included the establishment of a state of the arts studio.
“Let me tell you something, we need to build fantastic studios over here. What I don’t like is why is it that any good music or show, they have to go and do it in Dubai, South Africa. We are going to do it here under my presidency. Nice studios. Let others also come here; we are human beings,” Agyapong passionately articulated.
He emphasised the need to create an enabling environment for Ghanaian creatives to thrive and also take lots of pride in it.
“When you enter the studio, like what you’ve done, you should be proud of it and you can change it for the next artiste. So we need beautiful studios over here. We have to create a fund for them [the creative arts industry], because to produce a good movie or song, you need a lot of money,” he added.
Kennedy Agyapong is facing tough competition from the likes of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and former legislator Francis Addai Nimo at the upcoming NPP Super delegates conference scheduled for Saturday, November 4.
