One person has reportedly died in the Kpandai district in the Northern Region following a bee attack on supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) after a meeting on Sunday, December 14, ahead of the upcoming December 30 parliamentary elections rerun.
The meeting, according to information gathered by THE CUSTODIAN, was attended by the NDC Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, and National Organiser Joseph Yamme, among others from the headquarters and some Regional executives. The objective of the meeting was to engage with some stakeholders in the constituency, including branch executives, current and past executives, and opinion leaders in the constituency.
The Kpandai NDC Constituency Secretary, Mr. Nyong Sapaku Robert, in an exclusive interview, said the attack occurred some few meters away from the meeting ground.
He added that the meeting had successfully ended and the deceased was on his way home with his brother on a motorbike.
“…About 90 to 95% of the branch executives who came had all left. The said incident happened when the man was returning home, and he was carrying a brother behind, and I think they were just about 600 meters from the venue when they ran into a swarm of bees, and that attack came. I think he was riding, and the one behind was able to escape from the attack,” he explained.
Unfortunately, he said the deceased, whom he identified as a linguist, was beaten to death in his unsuccessful attempt to flee.
Meanwhile, the body has since been deposited at the Krachi hospital morgue for preservation. Mr. Robert disclosed that the party held an emergency meeting on Sunday to deliberate over the incident and extended their condolences to the immediate family of the deceased.
Reacting to how this will adversely affect the NDC, the Secretary noted the party will not lose focus but rather work assiduously to win the seat to honour the memory of the deceased.
