Members of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kpandai on Monday staged a protest, urging the party’s national leadership to seek a review of the Supreme Court ruling that overturned a High Court decision annulling the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election won by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam.
The protesters marched through the principal streets of Kpandai, chanting slogans including “No Nsala, no NDC in Kpandai,” as they demanded decisive action from the party’s leadership.
According to the demonstrators, the NDC, as the governing party, must take a firm stance by rejecting the Supreme Court ruling unless it results in a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency. They insisted that the party leadership apply for a review of the judgment and also called for disciplinary measures against some constituency executives, whom they accused of failing to adequately represent the interests of party members.
The youth group said the protest was aimed at safeguarding the credibility of the party and seeking justice for its supporters in Kpandai.
Demand for review
Addressing the media after the march, leaders of the group called on the NDC’s National Executive Committee and Legal Directorate to file an application for judicial review once the Supreme Court releases the full reasoning behind its decision on February 6, 2026.
In a press statement, the group maintained that the party had a strong legal case at the Tamale High Court. They argued that the earlier High Court ruling in favour of the NDC was grounded in what they described as sound legal reasoning, including alleged defects in gazette notifications, inconsistencies in publication dates, and the Electoral Commission’s purported failure to uphold its constitutional duty of neutrality.
Despite their strong demands, the youth leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and constitutional processes, urging supporters to remain calm as the legal avenues available to the party are pursued.
