Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged Ghanaians to reaffirm their dedication to building an inclusive society that upholds the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), Kufuor noted that this year’s theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” reflects Ghana’s continued efforts to promote equity and social inclusion.
He highlighted the passage of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715) during his administration as a major milestone in safeguarding the rights of PWDs and enhancing the country’s compliance with both national and international standards.
Mr. Kufuor praised the resilience and diverse contributions of PWDs in education, entrepreneurship, the arts, science, sports, and public service, stressing that disability does not limit potential.
However, he acknowledged persistent challenges, such as limited accessibility, employment barriers, inadequate healthcare access, and enduring social stigma.
He called for renewed national efforts to eliminate prejudice and ensure that policies truly improve the lives of PWDs.
The former president encouraged all Ghanaians to use the occasion to deepen their commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
